Nile Style wins 2009 Gourmand World Cookbook Award: Best Arab Cuisine Cookbook in the
U.S.
New York, NY (December 1, 2009):
Hippocrene Books is pleased to announce that Nile Style: Egyptian Cuisine and Culture by Amy Riolo
has been awarded “Best Arab Cuisine Cookbook” in the U.S. by the World Gourmand Cookbook Awards committee. Nile
Style will now go on to compete in this category with winners from around the world for the “Best in the World”
award. The winner will be announced on February 11, 2010 at the Paris Cookbook Fair. This is the first cookbook devoted to the multiethnic and multi-religious history of the Egyptian table. Twenty-three
unique menus celebrate occasions such as the Ancient Nile Festival, Ramadan Breakfast, or Passover. Each menu includes a historical
and anecdotal introduction along with the recipes. While the dominant Islamic, Jewish, and Christian culinary traditions are
well represented, recipes from the lesser-known Bedouin and Nubian communities in Egypt are also found here.
