U.S. News and World Reports rated the Mediterranean Diet as “The World’s Best Diet” again this year. Perhaps it’s the fact that this ancient diet with modern benefits is not a diet, but an easy to maintain lifestyle plan that has made it stand the test of time over millennia.On a personal note, one of the aspects of this easy to follow lifestyle that I’ve always enjoyed the most is that it doesn’t force you to give anything up completely. Instead of asking you to cut sugar from your meal plan, it suggests that you eat desserts sparingly, such as once a week. Same goes for red meat.It does, on the other hand, encourage eating and doing more of what’s good for you. My Mediterranean Lifestyle for Dummies book outlines all of this and the cultural reasons for it. It was an honor and a pleasure for me to emcee the Annual ICS Gala Awards Dinner at the Italian Embassy once again. This year’s theme was “Resonance of Italian Music Through Puccini” and the evening honored Gianandrea Noseda, Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra, the General Director of the Zurich Opera House, Music Director of the Tsinandali Festival, and the Principal Guest Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra. Many thanks to everyone who supports the ICS’ mission and this amazing event.

Mediterranea VillageIt was a pleasure for me to be able to participate virtually in a new festival in Calabria, Italy dedicated to promoting the Mediterranean Diet. Hopefully next year I’ll be able to attend in person!

VinitalyIt couldn’t make it to Verona to attend the world’s largest wine festival this year, but it warms my heart that my face was shown on the big screens in the Calabria Pavillion! While I was in Italy this winter I was able to participate in the filming of “Dove Tutto é Cominciato” produced by Francesco Manfredi with the support of Calabria Straordinaria, and the trailer was showcased at the festival. Stay tuned for more!
